It would be impossible to see everything in England in ten days. So we basically focused on the Lake District and then a few places on the way south to Brighton. I am glad the city of York did not get completely "sacked" in the 1200's! What an amazing cathedral. I would love to attend a church service in one of these ancient buildings, especially if it were in one of the small villages. The wall portraits always fascinate me as you can progress through history with the changes in the clothing worn. It looks like crewelwork on the bedspread in 3rd to bottom photo? You must have done a lot of research before your trip to narrow down your destinations. You haven't driven it arouand 5:00 p.m. on a Bank Holiday Monday afternoon which takes a whole hour to travel one mile which I ended up doing one August by accident!<br />Just look at those canopies on the beds! So beautiful.<br />I'll tell you something ~ Even though I can see examples every day, I will never ever tire of seeing any Gothic or pre~Renaissance cathedral in northern Europe. Nor will I tire of the simpler, earlier Norman parish churches that dot the countryside.<br />The food on that menu board sounds very good too.
