Beautiful Spring

Spring is off to a wonderful start in our area.  The garden is blooming and the weather is lovely.  We've been enjoying times spent with the family.  The grands always bring great joy!

Spring was worth waiting for this year!

Wisteria with bumble bee

I have a love hate relationship with this wisteria!  I keep it in our yard for a couple of reasons

The above photo is reason number one!  The second reason is that it came from Grayden's childhood home.  My mother-in-law's wisteria was always lovely and my husband enjoys seeing it.  If you have wisteria you know how invasive it is.  It can be quite a problem.  Wisteria is known to climb many yards per year.  So to keep that from happening in our yard, we constantly have to prune the runners. It also will pop up in the yard where you don't want it.  Many plants have been given away.  I frankly get tired of it, but keep it for the above reasons.  We have one on each side of our driveway.  They are pruned to mainly be tree standards.

It's such a beautiful time of year.  I hope you are enjoying watching the earth come back to life after a long winter!

    1. Dotsie, the fragrance is amazing. It's quite cool here now so the blossoms will last longer. Enjoy your weekend! ♥

  2. I am enjoying the plants coming back, though we are well behind you...it is so cold that I would not be surprised to find snow in the morning. You have many beautiful plants. I have far fewer and no wisteria. Thank you for making me feel better about that.

    1. Vee, we are having a cold snap here--my daughter in NH had snow flurries yesterday! You should be happy you don't have wisteria---if it weren't for Grayden, neither would I! ♥

  4. Wisteria is so beautiful!! There is a lot of wisteria growing wild in the woods along a road near our house, and we enjoy it there. We planted a vine near our front porch years ago, but quickly realized that it was more than we bargained for and we cut it down.

Great pics of your grands having fun! And beautiful, beautiful spring scenes!

    1. I bet you enjoy it from afar, Cheryl! I've heard wisteria can bring down the strongest of porches and arbors. You were wise to get it away from your porch. Have a wonderful weekend. ♥

    1. Cathy, the warm days of last week really made a lot of the plants grow larger. Now this week has been quite chilly, but helps the buds last. ♥

  6. Oh, Martha Ellen! Your garden looks absolutely gorgeous! Your amazing photos take us on a walk through all of the springtime beauty. It looks like your garden is a few weeks ahead of ours. I have always dreamed of growing wisteria, as I linger over beautiful magazine photos of wisteria blossoms hanging near a front porch. I had no idea that it would bring so many challenges to the garden! Many thanks for sharing your experience. Is it true that wisteria grows many years before it blooms for the first time? That thought has kept me from trying to grow wisteria here. I love seeing your fun visit with your grandsons. They are growing up so quickly! Have a wonderful weekend, Martha Ellen! ♡Dawn

    1. Thank you, Dawn. I know you are looking forward to spring blooms in your area. Wisteria is a lovely, fragrant, aggressive plant in the south. "Maybe" it is not so in your area. If I were you I'd speak with a local master gardener or your extension agent before planting one. In Williamburg they have a lovely arcade of wisteria that makes me swoon. I personally don't remember it not blooming at first. It's been in our yard for maybe 30 years! Have a great weekend, Dawn! ♥

  8. Martha, if I don't get some time to devote to the garden pretty soon I just might go crazy! Isn't digging in the dirt therapeutic?!
