The Tale of the Zucchini

In the kingdom of love and joy,  the king and the queen decided that they needed to start their walking again.  Alas, the weather in the land was hot and humid.  Too hot for the queen as she is not fond of walking when the steam is rising from the street.

The king suggested that they go over to the Royal Mall and walk in the comfort of air conditioning.  The queen thought this to be a lovely idea so she laced up her royal walking shoes and off they went to the Royal Mall.

Walking around the Royal Mall, trying not to draw attention to their subjects,  a young woman and three adorable boys approached them.  The young woman said she was from the Royal Agriculture Department.  She corrected herself and then admitted that she and her family had been on vacation and wondered if we wanted a zucchini from her garden.  She pulled it out of her bag and low and behold it was a giant zucchini.  The king looked at the queen and asked what she thought.  The queen looked at the children's faces and said of course we would love the giant zucchini.  You see the queen has a soft spot for children and didn't want to turn those adorable boys down.  The mother handed the zucchini over to the king.  As the children walked away the smallest boy said---"Thank you, now we don't have to eat it!"

The king looked rather interesting walking around the Royal Mall with a zucchini.  The queen arranged to have a royal bag for the giant zucchini.  The king was now able to finish the walk with the queen.

As the king and queen were travelling home in their royal coach, the king asked the queen what in the world was she going to do with this giant zucchini?  The queen was worried along with him about this issue.  Probably the queen would find it to be hollow or rotten inside.

The king loves chocolate and the queen figured she must make a chocolate zucchini bread.  Here is the king with the giant zucchini in the royal kitchen.

The queen still wondered what the zucchini would look like when she went to cut it open.

The zucchini turned out to be fine.  So the queen made some fine chocolate zucchini bread.

If you would like to make the royal chocolate zucchini bread go Here for the recipe

It makes two loaves of really moist delicous bread fit for a king and a queen!

PS --The queen has enough zucchini for the whole kingdom.

  1. =D Love that story! Love that the Queen had a soft spot for the boys. The mom had the Queen pegged.

Okay, I have two zucchini plants...from where I sit, there'll never be any zucchini at all, but if I do harvest some, I will want, no need, this recipe.

    1. Vee, she saw me, I mean, the Queen had a heart that couldn't say no.
The recipe is a keeper. Maybe next time the Queen would add nuts or chocolate chips or both. ♥

  2. Perhaps Her Majesty should consider a ratatouille to use up some of the zucchini. -- The Princess Royal.

    1. Well a spendid idea from the Princess Royal. Don't know if the King or the Grand Prince would like it, though! ♥

    2. The Grand Prince probably only ate it at the Winter Palace to be polite.

  3. Ha! That was a delicious tale. Might I inquire of your Highness whether this Royal Mall was in England, and you baked your royal bread in your rental cottage...or in your own castle at home?

    1. Jeri, the Queen is now at home in her castle. Alas, there is no castle cook, so the Queen has to do it herself. The Royal Mall is the Queen's way of staying in England. She's in serious denial.♥

  4. Wonderful story. I would LOVE to make chocolate zucchini bread, but alas! I do not have a giant zucchini. I do not have a giant zucchini. I do not have a giant zucchini! Did the little boy just give it to you, or did you pay for it? I love what he said about not having to eat it now. :-) By the way, my Reading List said you had a post entitled "Day Three, Hilltop" but there was nothing on your page! Did you take it down? You are such a tease!

    1. Cathy, the Queen would be happy to share the giant zucchini! The mother of the little boys just handed it to the Queen and walked off! She didn't pay for it.
I was working on my Hilltop post last night and hit he publish button by mistake--Sorry about that tease. It is not ready to publish---don't know if I'll ever be able to convey my feelings about Hilltop! But never fear, I'll try. ♥

  5. Such a sweet adventure from our own Fairy Tale Girl! Mmmmmm! This Royal Treat sounds so yummy. I'm sure there will be happy tears as you write about Hilltop, Martha Ellen! There will be puddles of happy tears as we read about your visit, dear one! Happy weekend to the Royal Couple! By the way, it is so rainy and chilly in our kingdom, that we wore denim jackets while antiquing today! Such crazy weather!

    1. Oh Dawn, thank you for your kind words. I have been living a Fairy Tale---thanks for the reference-SB style. Yes, Hilltop is fresh on my mind these days. I hope I can share what it really meant to be there. We are getting your rain today and it really reminds me of our day at Hilltop! I doubt that we'll be wearing jackets, though. Enjoy your weekend, sweetie! ♥

  6. If the little boys only knew a Queen could mix chocolate with zucchini, they may have tried it!!! What a Royal idea indeed!
I use the big ones for bread and the more normal size ones for ratatouille or Summer stir fry. Thanks for your recipe!

    1. Margot, you are so right! I wish my family were more "into" zucchini--I would make ratatouille. Summer stir fry sounds good. I've got some roasted zucchini in the oven now with other veggies-red pepper, onion and a little olive oil and salt and pepper--it smells yummy.
      Have a great weekend. ♥

Sorry about the Hilltop post, Michelle. I hit the publish button by mistake when I was working on it. I hope I'll have it ready soon. ♥

  9. This Celtic Princess {direct lineage from an ancient and legendary King of Ireland} is rolling in the royal aisles! Suggests the Royal scales needs adjusting as the King and Queen will gain some right royal pounds eating all that chocolate zucchini bread!
