I'm hoping all you friends that endured the blizzard, Jonas, are safe and well as we all recover from our storm. There have been various accumulations recorded up and down the east coast. As well as we can tell, we have at least 20 inches of snow. There are drifts that measure much more than that! As our record I wanted to post a few photos for us. If you are sick of looking at snow you are welcome to move on to another blog.
The storm began around 12:30 pm Friday with just light snow falling. Within an hour the snow began in earnest! In a couple of hours we had a snow covered patio.
Snow continued through the evening and into Saturday and by nightfall we really had some snow!
The sun was shining so lovely on the fresh fallen snow this morning!
During the storm the snow was so beautiful, but visibility was limited.
Before the storm we made sure the feeders were full of seed for the birds.
The storm was passing to the north and the full wolf moon was beginning to show her beautiful face!
The boxwoods are feeling the weight of the snow, even though it was a very dry powdery one!
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Robert Frost
There is something about a snowstorm that brings us into the quiet of our homes. Simple pleasures to quiet our thoughts and our minds.
I'm glad you enjoyed the storm and stayed safe. The photos are beautiful. There's nothing like fresh fallen snow! Now I guess you will wait for it to melt. Though with cold temperatures that may take awhile.
ReplyDeleteDotsie, I've always loved the snow. I know it's a problem for those that have to go out. Those that have to shovel it may not have the same love as I. ♥
DeleteThere is something about a blanket of snow that is calming and peaceful. Of course, reality soon enters the picture, and the clearing away must begin.:( I love that Robert Frost poem! Stay warm and cozy!
ReplyDeleteNellie, I love the snow. Maybe it's because we don't get it very often! Yes, the clearing has begun. Enjoy your evening! ♥
DeleteYou have to document such a storm! When was the last time you saw that much snow? Hopefully, it'll all melt soon and then life can get back to normal. Your world sure looks pretty wearing white. You have some great captures. The cardinals who have you to thank for their meals and those gorgeous icicles against the blue sky. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteVee, I think this is the most snow we have ever had in this home of 42 years. I do remember an 18 inch snow when the children were small. Did you get any? Have a great evening watching Downton Abbey! ♥
DeleteI couldn't get out of the house last night to get a clear shot of the moon! So very nice to see it here. I just did my post with lots of snow pictures. Our shared readers will indeed get their fill of snow especially if they have their own outside their window. I love Frost's poem, too, and will always remember my shock when the museum docent told us he wrote it one hot July morning after staying up all night working on another poem.
ReplyDeleteCathy, I took the photo of the moon from the inside as I couldn't go outside last evening. We went to Robert Frost's home as well, in New Hampshire, but I didn't hear that tidbit! Interesting! I'll be stopping by to see your big snow!! ♥
DeleteHe wrote it while at the Stone Cottage in VT. That's where I heard it told.
DeleteCathy, I haven't been there. We went to The Frost Place in the White Mountains. http://frostplace.org/museum/ ♥
DeleteOh these are such lovely photos! This is so much like our Maine house.....it would not melt until May believe it or not! This made my day, reading the Robert Frost poem! Lovely post Martha Ellen!
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Betsy! Our daughter lives in NH and I do believe that it would not melt until May! Believe it or not, we have more snow than she does at the moment! I bet you have many memories of big snows! Have a lovely day! ♥
DeleteOh my! What a beautiful way to document Blizzard Jonas, Martha Ellen! We kept you and your family in our thoughts throughout the entire weekend. So happy that you are safe and warm! Your snowy nature photos are a gorgeous memory of the quiet of your woods on a snowy evening. It's so sweet to see your needle felted friends warming your windowsill this morning, Martha Ellen! Enjoy your winter wonderland! ♡Dawn@Petals.Paper.SimpleThymes
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind thoughts this weekend, dear Dawn! You are a seasoned snow gal, and you know we are not! I have enjoyed the quiet that snow always brings to me. The landscape is always lovely when it's dressed in white. Have a wonderful day, my friend! ♥
DeleteI lived in NYC most my life and went through many blizzards, but this one seems to have broken records everywhere! Now I'm in Colorado and it snows a lot but melts quickly. Only the high mountains gets 2-3 feet of snow at a time, but they are well prepared for it. I'm glad you fed the birds--those poor fellows must have been so thankful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat! You know snow well and I'm sure have many memories. The birds are so happy we thought of them as well as the squirrels getting what seed the birds knock out of the feeders! I'm so glad you stopped by today! ♥
DeleteBeautiful photos of snow AND one of my all-time favorite poems. A wonderful post Martha Ellen. I hope that you are keeping toasty warm.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
Thank you, Amalia. Robert Frost's poem seems to be a favorite of many! I hope your day is wonderful! xo ♥
DeleteWe live in an area that is famous for it's blizzards, but mother nature has been extremely kind to us this year(so far):-)
ReplyDeleteBut you have captured your blizzard after math so gently! All of your picture are so pretty, especially the beautiful birds!!Stay cozy Martha dear!!
Sending warmth and love, Linnie
Dear Linnie, isn't it funny how the weather patterns change from year to year? I do hope you are feeling much better, my friend! xoxo ♥
DeleteHi Martha! Oh, my goodness, you did get hammered with snow but it it so beautiful! Thank so much for popping in to see me and hope you're digging out! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Shelia, we are all shoveled out and the snow is melting fast. It will take a while of course. Can you believe it's 55 degrees! Take care. ♥
DeleteYou've been busy building a flock of sheep! I love those hardy little cardinals, giving us a splash of color in the midst of pure white fluff. It is so lovely to look at.... and then , after I've slipped on the ice a few times and struggled to make it up to the barn in the stuff, I just want it GONE!
ReplyDeleteJeri, our snow is melting fast! Our driveway is clear as is our road out front. The high tempereatures in the 50's the last couple of days is sure to cause a muddy mess! I'm sorry you have slipped on the ice! That ice so dangerous. We're lucky not to have that! ♥
DeleteI do love the poem and the wonderful photos of sunshine and icicles, cardinals and snow. Glad you are safe and hope the snow will melt soon. xo
ReplyDeleteJudy, it's been a beautiful snow. It's now melting in our tropical temperatures! Take care! xo ♥
DeleteI tried to write this yesterday, but it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteI just love your new felted animals and especially the snowman!! Beautiful snow pictures! I had liked that poem all my life, and Robert Frost in general. I have some books with his poetry.
Keep warm my friend!
Margot ox
Margot, I wonder what happens to comments that get lost? This was a very nice snow and is melting as I write. When the snow began in earnest, I knew I had to felt a snowman to remember our blizzard. Robert Frost is a favorite with all of us it seems! Have a wonderful week, dear one! xoxo ♥
DeleteI love your cardinal pictures too! Does not their color just pop against the snow?!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great week too! Closing on the house on Friday, finally.
Congrats on the closing, Margot! ♥
DeleteOh Martha Ellen, your pictures made my heart sing! I'm never get too tired of looking at pictures of the snow because I don't get a chance to see it here unless we go up in the mountains, about an hour away. I heard of all the blizzards going on right now. 20 inches of snow, wow. I hope you are staying warm inside. And maybe playing a little outside. :) And you got a lovely picture of the red cardinal. Martha Ellen, do you know that it's my dream to see the red cardinal someday? I don't see them here in California. I'm wondering if they live in colder climates?
ReplyDeleteThese are truly wonderful pictures today. Watch out for those icicles. I heard they can be dangerous if they fall because they're so sharp. A happy day to you. I must come back and see this post again. :)
~Sheri
Sheri, I do hope you see a cardinal in person one day! They are my favorites. The really red one is the male and the more dull one is the female. They are always paired with their mates! Cardinals don't seem to live out west, I noticed. The icicles are gone now, but the snow is still here. We've had warmer temps this week, but it's cooler now. Thank you for your sweet note! ♥
DeleteLove successive photos of the same spot. :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you were well, and that you got to see the Full Wolf Moon. :-)
We were just above the storm, so we didn't get any snow.
But I think of our poor plants, without the usual blanket of snow, this winter. Hope they make it.
Gentle hugs...
I do hope your plants will be ok this winter. That blanket of snow really does make a difference while our plants are sleeping. Have a wonderful afternoon! ♥
