Hopefully by the time you read this post our weather will reflect the Autumn weather that I yearn. Today the air conditioner is off and the windows are open letting in the cooler air. It's coming and I can feel it approaching!
As fall approaches we enjoy watching our youngest grand play soccer. He truly loves the game. He's grown from the little child that didn't know which direction to run down the field, to a young man that excels in his sport.
We've enjoyed a short visit from our daughter. We were so thankful for her safe arrival even though it was full of anxiety. The train that bought her home, was in NYC when the train was delayed because of the pressure cooker bombings nearby. I pray for our world and the fear that surrounds our safety.
We enjoyed a trip to Colonial Williamsburg and had lunch at the Old Chickahominy House. Whenever our daughter visits we return to old favorites that we have been going to for years.
Even with the rain we enjoyed a lovely walk down the Duke of Gloucester Street.
Slowly but surely I'm bringing out the Autumn decor. The farmer's market had the cutest little pumpkins that I couldn't resist.
In the meantime there are plenty of zinnias to fill little vases with sunshine.
Sending wishes for beautiful Autumn days ahead. ♥

I can feel autumn coming in too, Martha Ellen! We took a little drive after dinner and the air was noticeably cooler than it had been earlier in the day. Thrilling!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool photo of your dear ones with their umbrellas! I don't think I'd ever get tired of Colonial Williamsburg. No wonder your daughter wants to revisit when she is nearby.
Loving your bits of autumn decor! I have a hard time resisting cute little pumpkins myself. Happy {{cooler}} weekend to you, friend!!
Thrilling is the best way to describe the lower temperatures and humidity, Cheryl! It feel so good. Enjoy every moment, dear one. ♥
DeleteCooler weather arrived yesterday and today has felt positively chilly, especially out watching a soccer game. One week, one's game; next week, the other's. It was nice to be out in the fresh air. Your touches of autumn are nice and I know it's nearly impossible to leave a farmer's market without some seasonal touches.
ReplyDeleteVee, I'm sure your grands love seeing you on the sideline watching their games. I always see Miles sneak a glance toward us when we see his games. Your area has spectacular fall color that I'm sure you will be enjoying soon. Our leaves are falling from lack of rain and have not begun to turn yet. I'm looking forward to the colorful show. Stay warm and cozy, dear one. ♥
DeleteOh! Happy, Blissful Autumn ~ and I hope your weather continues to cool quickly for you. As you know, ours is already sliding towards the Autumn gales side of matters ~ sighs ~ at least I don't have to water the pots now!
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy, smiling family photo. Love the brollies, so sorry you needed them though. I miss Colonial Williamsburg, so truly enjoy my little visits through your pages. Heartfelt thanks.
~~~Waving~~~Deb in Wales xoxo
Deb, this morning is a cool 65 degrees and will be great for our morning walk. Glad to have you along with us in Colonial Williamsburg. The brollies were a gift from our local newspaper that we keep in our car for such occasions. They are ancient but do the job. Stay safe and sound, my friend. xoxo ♥
DeleteSuch a lovely post ... great to know that you spent time with your daughter and grand-kids.
ReplyDeleteI love those little pumpkins and your zinnia's are a lovely colour too.
I do hope the weather does keep that little cooler for you.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. The weather is just wonderful today-cool and cozy. I even have an afghan over my lap! Feels like fall! Have nice evening. ♥
DeleteI went to my first game as a grandma this weekend. It was nice and short and just right for 5 year olds. He even made a goal! We are still waiting for cooler weather. I think we broke a heat record yesterday. Your autumn decor looks pretty and I always enjoy views of Williamsburg. It's been years since we were there.
ReplyDeleteDotsie I know you must have enjoyed the game. They are so cute and usually have no idea what's going on. Your grand clearly knew what to do. Hopefully you will get cooler weather soon. ♥
DeleteHow lovely...autumn is beginning to appear! How magical this time of year is! Have a great week Martha Ellen!
ReplyDeleteI hope Autumn magic is coming to you, Betsy. ♥
DeleteSo glad it's getting cooler there, Martha Ellen. What a cute picture of your grandson. He looks determined! You know, Jess played soccer and she was a forward. How nice that you took a walk with your grandson down the Duke of Gloucester Street. This is a special picture of the three of you. And your Header with the apples and squirrel is just perfect for Fall.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week ahead, Martha Ellen.
~Sheri
ps thank you for your sweet comment today. It just made my day. :)
Sheri, the photo is of my daughter, oldest grand and my husband. I'm always the one with the camera when out and about.
DeleteSoccer is a game both of our children played as well and my husband coached their team for many years. It's a good sport for children.
Have a lovely week. ♥
Oooops, sorry, Martha Ellen. It's hard to see with all of the umbrellas over their heads. But I do remember your grandson because he has the nice smile. ~Sheri
DeleteHappy Autumn days, dear Martha Ellen! I can tell that you are already embracing the season with wonderful family traditions. It's so lovely that you visited Colonial Williamsburg again to make more family memories together. Such a great picture! Late September seems like a very nice time to explore this special place. Our weather has been very, very warm. This week will bring highs in the low 60s. I'm so happy that it will finally begin to feel more like Autumn. It will be just right for digging in the garden. Wishing you a wonderful week, Martha Ellen! Dawn@Petals.Paper.SimpleThymes
ReplyDeleteHello Dawn, our very warm weather made a turn around yesterday. It is now wonderful and seems like fall is definitely on the way! Your weather sounds similar to ours for your upcoming week. It will be nice for playing in your garden. Autumn seems to give me a renewed spirit in our garden. We've transplanted several things and planted some grass in an area that suffered this summer. It's already sprouting and with the upcoming rain it should be happy. Enjoy a glorious week ahead, my friend! ♥
DeleteWonderful report of daily life. It´s so nice to see grandchildren growing up and enjoy their activities in sports. Here also autumn is slowly taking over late summer, I have not yet started my autumn decorations but it won´t be long.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing how you decorate for fall, Janneke. I've only put a few things out. Autumn seems to come when we I need a change in weather. Enjoy your week. ♥
DeleteI think we're going to get your rain here tonight. It's very overcast today after a beautiful weekend. It's so nice that you can just hop over to Williamsburg for the day from where you live.
ReplyDeleteWe have rain coming tonight as well. Our newly planted grass will certainly welcome it. Williamsburg is only a couple of hours away from us so we often just go for a quick visit. Have a nice week, Cathy. ♥
DeleteOh how fun to see the kids grow up like this and develop their skills! I an envious once again of your visits to Williamsburg! Glad your daughter made it safely from the NY area- it is so sad what is going on these days. It's cooled off here and we're enjoying it so much. We're making our way back home from Pennsylvania. Our Grandson was born in the early morning hours of the 22nd! At my mother's visiting now in Michigan. Much happiness and joy!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you and your family, Liz! Being a grandmother is one of the greatest joys in life. Safe travels as you make your way back home. Enjoy your time with your mother. How wonderful to share your joy with her. ♥
Deleteheartiest congrats dear my eldest one is mad about this game ,what a lovely photos
ReplyDeleteThank you, Baili. ♥
DeleteIsn't it fun to watch grandkids 'in their element,' so to speak. One of our grandsons is with us this week. I've never been to Colonial Williamsburg, but think that we're overdue for a (road) trip out east. I know it was wonderful to have your daughter with you. That's always a joy, isn't it. Your blog is always a delight for the eyes, Martha Ellen.
ReplyDeleteWe had a nice short visit with our daughter. You must come east to visit Colonial Williamsburg. I know you would enjoy the area. It's a lot to see in the Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg area of VA. Along with many other places as well. I'm sure you are having fun with your grandson. It's nothing like being a grandmother. Have a great week, Judy. ♥
DeleteHow sweet to watch the grandkids. I don't see mine too often. I love seeing your pictures of your visits to Colonial Williamsburg...rain and all. Having lunch at the Old Chickahominy House looks charming. It's like stepping back in time. Loving your sweet little pumpkins and the hydrangeas.
ReplyDeleteWe love seeing the grands, Linda. Hopefully again this weekend. It's a lot of fun going down to Colonial Williamsburg for the day or for the week! We love history and we certainly experience it there. Have a wonderful afternoon. ♥
DeleteHi Martha! Oh, I too am so glad all was well with your daughter and she was able to get to you. Our world is so sad and scary right now! I pray for our country daily. Your grandson is a very handsome young man and so glad he's found a passion. Sports are so good for kids. Oh, how I love Historic Williamsburg and have been down those same streets many times! I would love to see it at Christmas time. Thank you so much for popping in to see me.
ReplyDeletebe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Thank you, Shelia. Colonial Williamsburg is even more beautiful at Christmas. All of the wreaths and decorations are made from natural fruits and vegetables. I'm always inspired when we go there around the holidays. Have a nice evening. ♥
DeleteMartha Ellen, love your autumn decor! How I'd love to visit Colonial Williamsburg again. It's been too long.
ReplyDeleteJean I hope you are able to return to Colonial Williamsburg. I realize how lucky we are to live so close. ♥
DeleteI adore zinnias. They are such cute, perky flowers. They always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteAh, Colonial Williamsburg! I'm envious. I would love to visit there one day. So glad you were able to enjoy that visit with your daughter.
I, too, love autumn. Everything about it is beautiful, except that it is the gateway to winter. Even so, though, I eagerly await its arrival every year.
Have a joy-filled weekend.
Hugs,
Patti
Even being the gateway to winter, autumn is such a refreshing time after a hot humid summer. It's so welcomed this year especially, Patti. I hope you visit Colonial Williamsburg one day. It's such a special place. Enjoy your weekend. ♥
DeleteOctober is my favorite month of the year! I just love the cooler temperatures and autumn colors and our anniversary is in October.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your daughter was OK. That bombing was so scary but things like that can happen anywhere these days.There seems to be so much hate in the world ;( My heart broke this week 6 year old boy murdered in a schoolyard by a 14 year old neighbor. All we can do is pray, and keep praying.
Williamsburg is one of my fondest memories--we visited quite a few times over the years on vacations. My grandsons are also playing soccer--fun to watch them on the weekends!
Happy Anniversary to you and your husband, Pat. Our's is this month as well as our birthdays.
DeleteOur world seems to be a crazy place indeed. I'm so concerned for our grandchildren and those that follow. Yes, we must pray for peace and for wisdom to change this direction of hate.
Enjoy the cooler temperatures and all of the beauty that October brings. ♥
Thank you for the birthday wishes for Jess, Martha Ellen. I can't believe that my girls are in their 30's, oh my.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
You are welcome, Sheri. I can't believe my children are in their forties! We are both blessed, my friend. ♥
DeleteHope you have a really great weekend ♥
Thank you Summer. I hope your week is off to a great start! ♥
DeleteHappy autumn, dear Martha Ellen! I hope you're enjoying all the delights of the season. Colonial Williamsburg looks beautiful. It must be a lovely place to stroll and browse around the shops. I love your mini pumpkins, too. Happy new week! xo
ReplyDeleteHappy autumn to you as well, Rosinda. We're having a beautiful warm fall day. We're enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the patio. I need to pull up the beautiful zinnias as they have now finished their glory days. Thank you so much for sharing them with me. We've enjoyed many bouquets this summer and fall. Have a beautiful week, dear friend. xo ♥
DeleteThank you, my friend! I, too, have enjoyed your beautiful zinnias this summer/fall. Thank you for sharing them with me. I will be keeping the seeds to plant again next spring. That makes me very happy! XO
DeleteMartha Ellen, just checking in on you. Hope you're doing well and enjoying Autumn. I miss you. :)
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Thank you, dear Sheri for your sweet thoughts. We've been away and I'm just starting to catch up with my friends. I hope you are well and having a wonderful autumn day. I'm looking forward to catching up with you, dear one. ♥
DeleteAll those happy smiles, under the umbrellas...made me smile! It's getting cooler here but we've not had frost yet...very strange but a gift. I'm prepping farm and house for winter which will probably, arrive very suddenly even though expected.
ReplyDeleteSandra, we're having a very warm week that will probably end suddenly as well, as we slip into more seasonable temperatures. Have a good week, my friend. ♥
DeleteWe have had some beautiful Fall days and temps here in southeast Pa. but now it is in the 80's for 3 days. I want the cooler weather back to enjoy til winter comes and keeps me almost housebound. We love Williamsburg too, have been there many times but not in a few years. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pinky for stopping by for a visit! Our weather is warmer for a few days as well and then we will be more seasonable this weekend. I'll stop by for a visit soon. Enjoy your afternoon. ♥
DeleteWe'll be doing a show in Richmond next month... just a hop away from Williamsburg, but I STILL won't get there! Will need to get home right after the show to prepare for the next one. Darn! I really must go, it is so wonderful from your photos.
ReplyDeleteJeri, that's wonderful you'll be in Richmond. I must check your schedule! You would love Colonial Williamsburg. ♥
