Walks

We enjoy taking walks to get exercise.  It's what we have enjoyed for years.  Our walks have been a good way for us to talk and observe the beauty of the world outside of our home.  There have been  many problems solved on our walks.  Over the years the paths we follow have changed depending on the time we have to spend.  Mostly we spend about thirty minutes walking two miles.  Starting the day with a walk always feels right.  All you really need is a good pair of walking shoes and off we go.

This time of year is so lovely as we observe the leaves taking on their fall colors.  Trees seem to light up with the sun.  How beautiful our world is.  I'm so glad I live in an area that has four seasons.

Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.

Let's take a look at our walk that we enjoyed recently.  It is the walk that we take frequently.

Sometimes we go on a longer walk.  Our city has a wonderful Canal Path/ Heritage Trail that takes a little longer.  It's a 3.1 mile circuit that we usually begin by the river and takes us around the old canal and then back to the river.  Along the way you can learn more about our town and the changes that have taken place.  This past weekend was so pretty we decided to take this path for our walk.  There were many folks outside enjoying this wonderful autumn weather.  Folks walking their dogs,  bikers, children with parents all enjoy this path.  Many communities are adding trails for the enjoyment of their citizens.  Old rail beds have been converted into walking paths.  Our daughter worked on the committee to develop an old rail bed into a trail for her community in New England.

Here are a few photos of our Canal/Path Heritage Trail.

Along the path there are many markers reminding us of those who came before us.

Now after all of this walking let's go inside and have tea. ♥

  1. A beautiful day for a lovely walk. It doesn't matter, does it, that we take the same walk frequently? I take great pleasure in watching the subtle changes with each passing day as the seasons turn gently into the next. Yes, let's come inside for a cup of warming tea ~ we've earned it!

    1. Deb, we sometimes take a different turn or two when we walk our neighborhood. But we usually go for our usual walk. When we were younger we walked further distances, but this is now and this is what we can do. Somehow the world seems to be a little brighter after a walk. Yes, we have earned a cup of tea, please come in! xoxo ♥

  2. Oh it is lovely to see all the beautiful foliage. I especially like the crimson tree by the church...gorgeous. Great walking paths and a good habit you have got going there. There's an old railroad bed that runs along the length of John's property that people use for biking. My grandsons like it a lot. People in our community use the cemetery for walking because there are no paths and even sidewalks are limited.

    1. As you can see we don't have sidewalks either in our neighborhood. We were always taught to walk on the left side of the road facing the traffic for safety. I don't know if many folks were taught that as we see many who don't. Walking is kind of addictive and it's a mood brightener for me. I hope you enjoy your afternoon, Vee. ♥

  3. Thanks for taking me along with you on your walk, Martha Ellen. You still have the pretty orange Autumn leaves in your area. I noticed the other day at the park that the oranges on the trees were turning into reds. I love that picture of the person walking on the trail with the Autumn trees in the background. And the picture of the orange tree against the white building is so lovely.

Enjoy these Autumn days while they last, Martha Ellen.

    1. Thank you Sheri. Our leaves have been quite late in changing this year. But we are really enjoying them now. The leaves are falling quite a bit today as we had overnight and morning rain.
I sent you a message about the library to you gmail. I hope you got it.
      Have a wonderful afternoon! ♥

  6. That looks like such a nice path to walk. We have some "rails to trails" paths up here and throughout Michigan. We're still enjoying some great weather that could be great for walks but I hear the rain and winds more classic of November are on their way. Thanks for sharing a bit of your beautiful hometown area!

    1. Liz, we've had rain and wind this afternoon. I'm glad we got our walk in this morning. I think a lot of communities are turning the old rail beds into trails. It's wonderful that is happening, but I sure do wish we had more trains. Have a nice evening, Liz. ♥

    1. There are a number of new pathways in our area that we need to explore, Cathy. I really prefer circuit walks. Some of these new trails are one-way just now. There is a whole network of paths in our area that will connect to each other.♥

  9. Oh, Martha Ellen! Your fall photos are glorious! How lucky you are to live in such a picturesque corner of the world. I, too enjoy morning walks, especially when my husband comes along. Autumn, by far, is my favourite time to observe all the beauty nature has to offer. We are so blessed to have the four seasons where we live. Thanks for taking us along on your walk! XOXO

  12. It is indeed such a beautiful time of year. We are enjoying it especially as the heat was intense and lingered longer than usual this summer. Therefore it seems our leaves are slower to change color and fall off. The areas where you walk look lovely.

  16. That sure looks a lovely day for a walk - your photographs show some lovely scenes and colour.

I always enjoy a walk, especially during the Autumn with leaves crunching underneath my feet.
Walks in the park, walks by the canal or lake can bring so much pleasure.
... and yes to get back indoors and put the kettle on - is perfect!

Such a lovely post, I really enjoyed it.
    Thank you.

    All the best Jan
