Eleven

Eleven is a big birthday for our grandson Miles.  Being the youngest grand he is always trying to catch up to his older brother.  Alex is only 17 months older, but in Miles' world that is enormous.

We celebrated his birthday at our home last Saturday.  There were decorations hung by the grands!  Our son, Grady, lets the boys decorate for parties and so when they had the party here, we let them do the decorating.

Miles is like the rest of us and enjoys everything that has to do with the ocean.  So we went all out at the Dollar Tree and bought ocean themed table cloth, napkins, plates, and we even served crab legs--Miles' favorite!

Samuel and Alex climbed the ladder and attached streamers to the fan and the crown moulding.  It was fun watching them handle everything!

When Grady was a Cub Scout he and his Dad made a giant Ho Ho cake for a father son bake-off.  They won first place all those years ago.  Miles had heard about this and wanted a giant Ho Ho cake for his birthday.  So we (the boys and I) made the cake for the celebration.

These two guys don't like crab legs, so they enjoyed pasta for their meal.

Miles enjoyed his day and is happy to be ELEVEN!

    1. As a matter of fact, Deb, Alex (my 12 year old engineer) made sure we could still turn the fan on! Ho Ho's were snack cakes back in the day--kinda in the same genre as Twinkies--maybe you didn't have those snacks in Wales. They were made by Hostess. ♥

    2. I was thinking about the fan not being able to be used. How clever of him. Happy birthday, Miles!

    3. Cathy, we turned the fans on with the crepe paper still attached---worked like a charm. ♥

  2. I just realised I know them! Same 'family' as Twinkies. They look a lot like our Cadbury mini rolls, which have a white or chocolate cream filling. I loved the double chocolate ones ~ ah! childhood memories come flooding back.
    Now, that's a clever child!

  3. What a wonderful family celebration! Happy 11th birthday to Miles! He looked so happy while hugging his birthday balloon. It's a sure sign of a successful celebration! It's so great that your grandsons were the decorators and bakers, carrying on the special family traditions. They will always remember these small moments,... and the small moments really are the BIG ones! Are you a scrapbooker, Martha Ellen? ♡Dawn@Petals.Paper.SimpleThymes

  4. Congratulations to Miles!! What a great birthday cake. Looks a little tricky to put together. Y'all did a fantastic job. I've never ever eaten crab legs. Love your theme and that the kids got to decorate.

    1. Judy, it was a jelly roll style cake that took several steps but easy. Crab legs are delicious, but a little messy to eat. Miles loves them! ♥

  5. What fun! I'm sure they had a great time decorating and enjoying the celebration. I think we may have the same blue chairs., and your curtains---ditto, at least the fabric. :-)
