Antique Mall of Williamsburg

We walked down the Duke of Gloucester Street and it began to rain quite heavily.  Not wanting to get soaked and knowing we have the week to enjoy here, we decide to go to the Antique Mall.  If you love going antique shopping as much as I do, this is the place to go on a rainy day!

The Antique Mall of Williamsburg covers over 45,000 square feet!  It is quite large and one can easily spend an afternoon browsing the aisles of treasures.  There are more than 400 booths, showcases and wall spaces.  There is even a tearoom inside.

Come inside and I'll show you around some of this most interesting place!

The above case is loaded with antique salt and pepper shakers.

Grayden was intrigued by the antique tin toys.

Do you remember the old Pyrex pieces?  My Mama had that blue and white mixing bowl on that old Formica table.  Walking through an antique shop is like walking into the past.

Dishes and linens always catch my eye.  I have a confession to make that is probably not a surprise.  I love old English china!!  I also love old linens.  It's so much fun to see all the beautiful pieces.  Vowing not to bring more into our home, I walk by quickly.  But, not before admiring the lovely pieces.

Cheryl I thought of you when I saw this setting!

This lovely tea table cloth almost came home with me.  Unfortunately it had tea stains that I wasn't sure I would be able to remove.

I love this old McCoy bowl.  The bowls that I own came from this Antique Mall.  The prices are creeping up on these beauties.  The old pewter and crockery caught my eye.

There is a great selection of Beatrix Potter figurines and books and beautiful items to temp you.

I used to dress our son in little outfits like this one.  Oh my, I can't believe how long ago that was!

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Antique Mall.  What would have tempted you?

  1. Well I feel like I've been at the antique mall! I love looking through old things--so many familiar from us, my parents, or grandparents. I would have been drawn to the dishes and linens, as you, and also the books. I'd check to see if there were any BP books to add to my collection. Enjoy your week there!

  2. Oooooo, this is my kind of place, Martha Ellen. Such wonderful treasures. I love that blue china, and for some reason, blue china is the prettiest to me. aahh, look at that sweet picture of the girl. I would have gotten that. :) The dolls look so old. Whenever I see antique dolls like this, I can imagine the little girl who once played with and loved her doll.

    1. Sheri, blue and white china has been a favorite of mine since we first married. I now think I would choose the red transfer ware. There were many lovely old paintings that make me wonder about them being in an antique mall. I hope someone adopts them. ♥

  3. Those red transferware dishes would be my choice, too! I'm partial to the blue, too, but I have my blue Laura Ashley dishes, so I couldn't justify getting another set of blue dishes. I'd take a good look at the Beatrix Potter figurines, too. I'm not collecting the china ones, though. I'd like to find more of The World of BP series--they each stand on their corresponding stack of books. I enjoyed your tour--you did all the walking for me!

    1. I remember your World of BP pieces, Cathy. I didn't see any at this Antique Mall. There was plenty of walking done here for sure. I slept really well that evening! ♥

  4. What a feast for the senses, Martha Ellen! My word, what didn't tempt me, huh?

Thanks for the stroll and "visit" there with you - loved every pic! But you know I too must walk quickly past vintage tea china.....it is the bane of my existence, haha.

    1. Michele, I understand...I'm trying to not bring anything into our home that is not necessary! Why would I ever decide to do that? Sometimes I stick to my resolve and sometimes, well, you know! ♥

  5. Well, my spending would be drastically curtailed by either the airline weight restrictions {let's pretend for one moment I might *just might* fly} or by international shipping rates! I would probably head straight to the bookshelves to find something I know has a low possibility of being found in Wales ~ Tasha Tudor books, for example {yes, I spied them!} I do like that red transfer ware dinner service bottom right of the last montage. I prefer red or brown to blue and think it is a reaction to growing up with a deluge of Blue Willow in the house. However, everything is just so tempting. I have to compliment you on your choice of music today too! I will be leaving it on to play through.

    1. Deb, I had those same restrictions last year when we were in England! It was tough not to bring back treasures! My Mama was a lover of blue and white when I was growing up as well. It makes me happy to hear you are enjoying the music! Have a great day. xoxo ♥

  6. 400 booths? Tea room? Heavens to Betsy!! The next time Ron and I go to Williamsburg, I know where we'll be spending some time. (Actually, the girls would love it too, but they'd not want to linger as long as Ron and I would.)

I stopped in my tracks (to drool) when I reached the photo with the farm table and the Windsor chairs and the coverlet fabric...and then I saw my name and that you had thought of me!! I love it!! :D

What would have tempted me? Oh, so many things! Everything in "my" room setting, of course, but also the children's books, the blue china, the yellow ware bowl, that red and white quilt...

By the way, I used to dress my own son in outfits like that! He may still be traumatized by old photos of himself is such things, as he is a rugged jeans and flannel shirt man these days. Oh, but he was so beautiful with his little head of blonde curls and dressed in a romper and white "baby" shoes. No regrets on my part. A baby has the rest of his life to wear jeans.

    1. Cheryl, they had many, many items that would suit your fancy. This place is enormous! Our son had blonde hair and those white shoes that required polishing every evening. I had to iron those little rompers to boot..but he looked so adorable---No regrets is right! ♥

  7. What a fun tour! The jadeite s&p in the first photo really caught my eye. I don't know why I've become fond of that lately. I didn't even like it when I was younger. I used to have the entire hardcover set of Beatrix Potter books but just last year gave them to our daughter for her wee ones. It was time...but I'm always drawn to Beatrix Potter anything and of course Tasha Tudor. Lovely post, Martha Ellen!

    1. Judy, there were tons of jadeite pieces there. I think it's making a comeback. Oh what a nice grandmother you are to gift Beatrix Potter's books to your grands. I'm a huge fan of BP and I adore Tasha Tudor. It's lovely to meet so many kindred spirits in blog land! Thanks for your sweet comments, dear Judy! ♥

  8. Oh Martha Ellen, that picture was of Jess and her cousin. My mistake, and thanks for letting me know, as I just put a few words under the picture so it wouldn't confuse my blog friends thinking it was Jess and Nel. You are such a wonderful blog friend.

  10. Oh oh, Mary Ellen--so much would have tempted me at this wonderful antique mall! I love vintage tea cups and saucers, children's books and salt glaze pottery. I am also trying not to add more collectibles to my home. Packing for a move cross country convinced me that I have to keep pared down as I approach the ":golden years" :) But, I would have been soooo tempted by a few things, unless their prices were outrageous.

    1. Pat, there were many vintage tea cups and saucers and I did see salt glaze pottery as well. Some of the prices of items that I collect have increased in price, so that did keep me from buying... A good thing as I'm trying to pare down myself. We have lived in our home for 43 years and I really have been trying to not bring more in! ♥

  14. Hi again, Martha! Well, looking again at this antique mall I see lots of Pyrex. I love Pyrex but somehow I'll bet it was pricey! :) Thanks for popping in to see Babbette's clothes and I hope you've had a nice weekend.

  15. I am sure I just spent about 5K window shopping with you.Lets see, I will have the pine Corner cupboard, ALL the tin toys, the Sampler, the red Vista Ware, the coverlet wing chair, the bisque dolly in the white chemise, the huge black cupboard with all the cubbyholes, the little basket, all the pewter and Brittainiaware teapots, AND the candy molds on the wall... Okay, so I spent MORE than 5 K! Wow,my kind of store... Oh, i nearly forgot, wrap up that saltglazed stoneware crock, please. Love it Martha... I wish I was rich, but I am not.boo hoo. As kids, we would pour over the Sears Christmas catalog and pick something from each and every page, just dreaming of course, but it was fun.

Glad you had a good time in Colonial Williamsburg and WAM - one of my favorite day trips! mari
