Catching Up

When uploading photos to One Drive I realized I had not shared some fun family times of last month.  Even though these are a few weeks old I do enjoy remembering the good times.

We went down to visit the boys over President's Day weekend.  They had gotten a trampoline from Santa that their Dad was putting together when we arrived.  If any of you have ever had the pleasure of putting one together you know it's not hard, but quite time consuming.  The boys were delighted beyond belief at the finished project!

Yes the weather was warmer last month than this month.  Alex loves to wear Bermuda shorts on days that are 60 and above.

Of course the big kids had to give it a try.

I have a lot more sense than these guys, so I declined the temptation.

Miles came home to stay with us for the weekend.  It's the first time he has done that without his brother.  We thoroughly enjoyed the alone time with just him.

Ferry Farm had a celebration honoring George Washington's birthday.  Miles wanted to go so we ventured out for a little history lesson and fun at Washington's Boyhood home.  I've mentioned before about the building of the home on the original foundation.  We took this opportunity to see it up close.

First you must partake of birthday cake!

And a little sip of cherry tea!

Then off to play Colonial games.

We walked over to the site of the home construction.  It's so exciting to see the home coming together.

The home is being built as close as possible to original building methods.  Hand forged nails can be seen on the building.

Miles wanted to run down the hill to the river.  The Washington home sits at the top of the hill overlooking the Rappahannock River and the city of Fredericksburg.

That's him in the burgundy shirt.

We reminded Miles that George Washington must have run up and down this hill as a child, just like you did!

  1. Martha Ellen, I really related to this post, as all my kids jumped on the trampoline growing up, but guess what? Back then, they didn't have the net surrounding it! Boy, was I watchful every time they got on that thing. I'm so glad your grandkids have the trampoline to play with, it's so much fun. That Birthday cake looks amazing! How interesting and fun that you got to visit George Washington's home where he grew up. Miles looks so cute in these pictures running up and down the hill.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, my dear friend.

    1. Sheri, we were weary about the trampoline as it is one of the top items that children can get hurt on. I think that's why the new ones now have the net! Happy St Patrick's Day to you! ♥

  3. Visiting places like this just reinforce their love for and interest in history. It's nice to have them one on one, isn't it? I had my grandson all afternoon while his sisters remained at home. Kids do love trampolines and its good exercise. I know the netting makes them safer. Hope you have a good weekend!

    1. Dotsie, Miles and his brother are just 17 months apart and are very close. So they always come together for a visit. We really did enjoy one on one this time. I'm so glad you were able to do the same. Enjoy your weekend. ♥

  4. I wonder who had the most fun on the trampolene? {starts with G ends with N} I do think you were the most sensible of them all, my friend ~ I would have been standing with you on the sidelines!
What a splendid cake! I remember, though, you have to be very careful eating that coloured icing ~ I once ended up with a very blue mouth at a Navy Birthday CPO Wives luncheon!
I hope you all have a good weekend not trampolening!

    1. Deb, you have Grayden figured out. He is a big kid at heart, but his body told him otherwise the next day. Lol We'll be seeing the boys again tomorrow and I doubt we'll be on that trampoline.
Watch out for deeply colored icings. I can see you now with a blue mouth! Enjoy your weekend, my friend. xoxo ♥

  5. It looks like Miles (and you) had such a wonderful time! Nothing like getting kids into the history of our country. I love it! I searched your blog yesterday for your post about Emma Bridgewater. I was disappointed to find that the EB factory was in Stoke on Trent, not Bampton, as we are going to be in that area this fall. Stoke on Trent is far out of our way, so I'll just keep watching for EB sales. LOL What a lovely post. So fun to have the kids around, isn't it. Have a wonderful weekend, Martha Ellen.

  7. You know, I would have been so tempted to jump on that trampoline, but I guess all bets are off with a knee replacement.
A nice outing with some one on one time with your grandson who is so cute, handsome young lad for sure. I will have to take Adalyn here and talk about our first president , George Washington. Such a great post.

    1. Betsy, I would have needed a ladder to get up on that trampoline! Lol My jumping days are over. It was fun watching the guys enjoy themselves.
Betsy, Ferry Farm is a fun place for children to learn about our first president when he was a young man. The home should be completed by the end of the summer. ♥

  8. I haven't been on a trampoline since high school! I do remember how fun it was but I like you would be reluctant now. I'm not familiar with the story about George Washington's boyhood home so I enjoyed reading this. I'm impressed that they've gone to the level of creating hand forged nails for the re-creation of his home! How lucky you guys are to live within a short distance of historical places. Miles looks like he had a good time!

    1. Liz, we can walk to Ferry Farm if we wanted. Our home is on property that was originally part of this farm. The Ferry Farm home is now being created in the same fashion it would have back in the 1700's. We love history and try to appreciate all that Virginia has to offer. It's so much fun to share it all with the grands. ♥

  11. I know your grandsons must love their trampoline, as my grandboys also received one from Santa Claus and they are always jumping in it. It's nice to be one on one with a grandchild at times, and it looks like Miles enjoyed his special time with you! George Washington is my favorite President, Martha Ellen, so I would love to visit his boyhood home one day when it is completed. I did visit Mount Vernon a couple of times and learning more about his life before and after being President.

  12. Time spent together as family is such a wise investment. I love it when you show us peeks into those times.

How wonderful that your grandsons are growing up with an appreciation for history! I had to smile at the Burmudas in February . . . but we did have some warm February days!
