Fifty-Three Years of Love

We celebrated our 53rd anniversary on Wednesday.  Every year I ask myself how can all this time have passed!  We are both blessed to call each other best friends.

Grayden and I often dance to our favorite music after dinner.  One of our favorite songs speaks to the love we share.

Time After Time  🎶

During this strange time of the Pandemic we are pretty much staying home except for our daily walks and trips to the grocery store during senior hours.  Sadly we recently had to change our walks from the beautiful trail along the river to walking the sidewalks around the trail, but not on it.  Unfortunately we had been running into many people that are not adhering to the social distancing guidelines.  Frankly, we both are quite sad about this situation, but we want to stay safe, so we are doing what is best for us.  It was getting quite stressful and that is not how we want to start our days!  Do any of you find this to be true when you are out and about?  I'm quite disappointed in my fellow man at this point!

On a happier note, Grayden asked me if I would like to take a ride down to the river and enjoy the gorgeous day that was our anniversary.  There are usually not many folks there in the afternoons so we headed down to enjoy the sunshine and the river.

The river is one of our favorite places to relax and reflect on the day.

It was also my birthday.  Everyone knows I love flowers.

I placed this lovely arrangement from our daughter in the living room.

And this Autumnal arrangement from my sister in the Florida room.

Receiving many phone calls from family made a wonderful day for both of us.  So much has changed in a year in all of our lives.  I hope you can find joy in the little things, which are the big things, in life.  I pray you are staying safe, my friends.

  2. Oh, Martha Ellen, Yes, I do find it stressful when going out and about during this time. Happy Anniversary and a Happy Birthday too! 53 years is a wonderful thing. So very special. The river is a perfect place to spend the afternoon. What a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The flowers from your loved ones are so pretty. And those red roses made me smile. Sounds like your day was a pleasant one spending it with your best friend. : )

    1. Though our day was different from most years it still was lovely. The red roses were from my sweetheart, Sheri. He knows me well. Stay safe!

  3. Dual wishes for happiness! Happy birthday and happy anniversary! I love fresh flowers in the house, too! Yes, I’m dismayed by the haphazard attitudes of those who refrain from following the CDC guidelines. We have turned around and gone another direction when we realize there are those who aren’t being respectful and considerate of themselves and others. I love that you have the river nearby!

    1. Thank you, Nellie. We love having the river so close and love seeing its beauty every day. Our new walk is so different, but safer for us now. It makes me sad and mad when folks aren't respectful of the guidelines. Take care and stay safe. It's really too bad it has become a partisan issue.

  4. Belated Anniversary wishes, wishing you many more happy years together. Happy Birthday too, a lovely few days of celebrations. Locally, the majority of people are quite good to sticking to the rules, including social distancing for which I am truly thankful.

    1. Loraine, you are so lucky to live where folks believe in the severity of the Pandemic. Thank you so much for your wishes. I really appreciate them. Have a happy weekend.

  5. Happy Birthday to you, and Happy Anniversary to you and Grayden. Your flowers are so beautiful indeed.

I hear you so loudly! I am still reluctant to leave my cottage, solely because of the many who do not observe social distancing or mask wearing, especially when in the middle of nowhere with all the countryside to distance in, why do people come so close? Just yesterday, on a vital trip to the Pharmacy in the village, I was overtaken by a runner who passed by just inches from my side. I came home by my back door and just threw all my clothes in the washing machine and left my jacket to hang in the sunshine for a couple days.
Wales is due to go into a three week long "Circuit Breaker" lockdown to try and halt the climbing spread of this disease, and protect the NHS as winter approaches.
Sending Hugs, Stay Safe and Well, Deb xoxo

    1. Deb, we are astonished by people these days. I'm sorry what happened to you on your trip to the pharmacy. Joggers on our trail not going single file, which is the rule, taking up the whole path chasing us into the grass was getting old. There is no way people around here would go for a "Circuit Breaker", I'm sad to say. It seems folks are growing more and more blatant in not adhering to the suggestions.
Thank you for your wishes, my friend, as we all try to stay well. xoxo

  6. Well, first of all, happy anniversary. The flowers, the river -- they are all beautiful. I'm glad your river is close at hand. It looks like a beautiful escape. And it sounds like a wonderful celebration for many impressive years!

I know what you mean about people not following the rules or too many people. My walking path at home put up one way arrows which seem to help -- at least they aren't coming at you. When I do sense someone coming up behind me, I will often step aside and turn my back, leaning into the fence around the pond, although that's probably not really necessary. I don't see a lot of masks there, probably because it is outside and people are moving, but I always have mine if I'm coming onto someone. The thing that bothers me most is when people are wearing masks below their noses -- and they are store employees. That happens a lot up north. I wish we would have a lockdown but now that Michigan's Supreme Court ruled against the governor having extended emergency powers and a state legislature that believes we should just get one with things, that is unlikely.

    1. Thank you, Jeanie for the kind wishes. I do appreciate them. Having the river close by is so nice for us.
We react the same as you on our walks. Our trail has specific instructions to walk single file when passing ---I'm afraid most folks refuse to do so. We did similar to you and turn away or walk into the ditch or wherever we can get away. So we had no choice but to be angry or find another way to walk. We chose the later and it is okay for now. It's beyond my thinking how this Pandemic has become so partisan. Stay safe and well and enjoy your weekend.

  7. Anniversary blessings to you, Martha Ellen and Grayden!! My heart did a flutter when you said that you two often dance to your favorite music after dinner, as I imagined this sweet scene in my mind's eye. Oh, indeed you are blessed to have an enduring and tender love!

Keep walking together, even if the path is different. That can be taken literally . . . or figuratively in these uncertain times. ❤

  9. What beautiful flowers and scenery! So glad you were able to go down to the river and enjoy that. Seeing people who are ignoring the guidelines is stressful, but I don't run into *anyone* when I go out for walks because I go so early in the morning! :D Happy anniversary!

    1. Jean we go early for our walks every day. In the summer we went at 6am and now that it is cooler we go at 8am. The trail we used to walk is quite popular no matter the time of day. Thank you for the anniversary wishes. I appreciate it very much!

  10. Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday, Martha Ellen! It sounds like you cherish each and every day, and that is what really matters.
We sadly have unhealthy air quality these days due to wildfires burning in Colorado, so we have not been able to walk or hike as much as we'd like lately. I'm hoping for snow to help put the fires out! We see many not wearing masks even though our state has a mask mandate. I try to stay far away from them and only shop in stores that require they be worn. I do worry about becoming ill with covid and not doing well. Praying a successful vaccine will work and give us protection.

    1. I thought of you Pat when the news of the fires in Colorado was reported. I'm so sorry it affects how you are able to enjoy your beautiful area. I do hope snow comes early to bring some relief.
We are praying for a vaccine to become available as well. I don't understand why folks don't adhere to the CDC guidelines. I feel they are just making this Pandemic last longer.
Thank you so much for the wishes. Take care and stay safe!

  11. Congratulations and Happy 53rd Wedding Anniversary to you and hubby Martha Ellen, I’m a little late, sorry about that :) Thank you for sharing your favorite song also. And oh my goodness it was your birthday? A Belated Happy Birthday sweet lady! I love those beautiful flowers from your daughter and sister, how thoughtful! Thank you for sharing all these lovely photos, of your walk also. We are doing the same as you in that we are very careful and cautious. I know there are those who think we are being too much so, but we should all do what makes us feel comfortable and secure, for as long as it is necessary, and not be criticized for it. As my dear mother-in-law used to say, I’m minding my own beeswax. People can and should be allowed to wear what they want without being demonized for it. Hopefully 2021 will bring kinder attitudes. We lost a good friend to Covid a few months ago, and recently one of Gregg’s aunts to Covid this past week, a dear, sweet lady who was kindness personified. She was a roll model for so many in her family, for us too. Have a wonderful week and once again, Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday! xx

    1. Denise, my condolences to you and your family at the loss of your friend and aunt! That is so sad to hear. I agree with you about kindness toward one another. Hopefully as 2020 closes many lessons have been learned and we can all love each other. It's really so simple, but so hard for some to do.
Thank you so much for the wishes, my friend, I do appreciate my time spent with you. xo

  12. Happy belated anniversary and happy belated birthday too, what a fun week for you.
I agree with your sentiments regarding distancing, it’s very frustrating that not everyone takes it seriously. I am mostly staying in but when I do venture out, I avoid people as much as possible. I just wish it would all go away. Fiona

  16. Happy belated Anniversary! Happy Birthday too! Beautiful flowers from your sister and daughter. We have driven to the river there many times. It's a nice place to visit and walk. I am careful in stores or tight places but when outside we do not wear masks. I like to get fresh air. Mom always used to say for us to only breathe through the nose and breathe out through the mouth. She said the nose cleanses the air. I need to look up some of these things she used to say.

    1. Thank you, Betsy for the wishes. We are sad that folks on our trail would not follow the rules of going single file when passing others. There are a few tight spots that made us nervous so we don't need more stress these days.
