Snow Days

Red- Bellied Woodpecker

In Virginia we rarely get one of those really big snows.  When we do all of us stay home (if possible) and cozy up to the fire and enjoy a reason to hibernate.  During the time my children were home and still going to school, we tried to enjoy the snow days as much as possible.  Of course they always loved playing in snow and taking the sled down the hill or making an igloo.  After playing in the snow and getting everything wet down to the skin, it was time to come in and peel off the layers of clothing.  We used to heat our home with wood and the children would warm themselves by the wood stove and I'd prepare hot chocolate.

It became a tradition during those carefree days off from school to then bake chocolate chip cookies.  Whenever the weatherman called for snow, I tried to have all the ingredients on hand to make this special treat.

Yesterday our grandson had morning classes cancelled, due to a light dusting of snow and some ice. So I invited him to partake of an old tradition at our home when his mother and uncle were little children.  He jumped at the chance!  Who doesn't love chocolate chip cookies?

  1. Oh! I'll be right over! How inviting that tray of tea and cookies look ~ why, you even have my Rose and Bee mug waiting for me ~~~ I haven't made chocolate chip cookies for such a long time and they are a pleasure much missed, warm and melting, fresh from the oven.
Great shots of the woodpecker! I find them one of the most feisty birds of all to shoot.

  3. Martha, your killin me! I'm on a diet. I collect tea pots and cups as well, mostly red and white transferware and pewter pots. You are the only person I ever met that had a Nanny... and with a parrakeet in tow!

    1. Jeri, you would have loved my Nanny and she would have loved Hopalong Hollow! I would love to collect red and white transferware, but my dish obsession is already out of hand! ♥
