Today our weather was just the perfect autumn day. Samuel had a pumpkin he wanted to carve and we had a chiminea full of sticks. Saturday we had taken in all the tender houseplants. They had been vacationing outside for the summer, but with the cooler temperatures they needed to come inside. We cleaned the rug from the patio and hung it on the line. The patio umbrella and stand were put back into my potting shed. We were ready to get down to business with the pumpkin carving.
But first we lit the fire in the chiminea. Our son gifted this little fireplace to us maybe 10 or 12 years ago. We've had so much fun enjoying the patio on cold evenings and the grands especially love the s'more making. Every year we say it will be its last--Note the wire holding it together!
Samuel started on the pumpkin.
Then what's fire without s'mores?
Inside I've been bringing out some decorations,
This pumpkin head scarecrow is as old as my children.
I hope you are enjoying all the wonderful days that October brings!
October
O hushed October morning mild,Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.
Robert Frost
