Happy Spring!

The calendar is reminding me that today is the first day of spring!  It's also our grandson Alex's thirteenth birthday!  How can that possibly be?  Sometimes I feel like time is passing so quickly!

The boys always decorate their parties with streamers and balloons.  Children teach wonderful lessons about how to live a happy life.  I try to pay attention to their lessons.

This past week was our grandson Samuel's spring break.  We all decided to take the train up to New England to visit Samuel's parents.  Here are a few photos from our visit.

If you love to bake as I do, no trip to Vermont is complete without visiting King Arthur Flour.

King Arthur Flour was founded in 1790 and has over 225 years of history in flour and  baking education.  You can find the very best in equipment baking needs.

Samuel always enjoys going to the Montshire Museum of Science.  We all enjoyed the morning viewing the current exhibits.

We also visited Simon Pearce.  Simon Pearce is well known for its beautiful blown glass tableware.   Mr. Pearce came to America from Kilkenny, Ireland  to build his business.

We were able to view the glassblowing in process.  Simon Pearce likens this process to a ballet.  I couldn't agree more.

"I searched until I found Ireland in Vermont"  Simon Pearce

Of course the best part of our trip was being with loved ones that we miss.

  1. My husband loves blown glass. The next time we're up that way we'll have to go to Simon Pearce. Is it near King Arthur, which we never miss when we're in Vermont.

    1. Your husband would love visiting Simon Pearce in Quechee, Vt., Cathy. It's so fascinating to watch the glass blowers in action. Their flagship store is only 10 or 11 miles away from King Arthur. ♥

  2. Another delightful visit to your corner of the world. I don't know why it is but ever since I was a child the moment I hear the word Vermont my heart goes pitter patter ~ strange, isn't it?
Happy Birthday wishes to Alex, yes, where does time go?
Simon Pearce is also the assistant Director of Music at the cathedral! I bet he suffers from jet lag ~ oops, my humour petticoat is showing again :) Not the same Simon Pearce.

    1. Deb, Vermont is quite magical indeed. It's such a lovely state full of natural beauty. How interesting your assistant Director of Music is a Simon Pearce. Maybe it's a common name in the UK. xoxo ♥

  3. The covered bridge photos (and your new header) are spectacular. I can just imagine the sound of rushing water. Love all the bread quotes especially! Looks like you've been busy, on top of your construction at home. It was probably nice to get away! Happy Monday.

    1. Vee, you and John must take a trip to visit the Vermont Country Store. Their catalog is a teaser for all they have in their store in Weston. We spent a morning there and then went to eat lunch in their Bryant House Restaurant. Enjoy your day, dear Vee. ♥

  7. Martha Ellen,
Happy Birthday to your Grandson! What a fun place to visit. I love the bread quotes. Haven't had homemade bread in so long. My sister used to bake it and give us a warm slice with butter right out of the oven.

    Have a wonderful week, dear.

    1. Sheri, I make all of our bread with a very simple recipe. There is nothing better than homemade bread straight out of the oven! Have a great day! ♥

  8. Martha, you have some fine looking boys there!. I don't love to bake, probably because I adore bread products SO much, I would eat everything straight out of the oven. I have always admired the covered bridges of New England AND the maple syrup.

    1. Jeri, I make all of our bread, so I guess it's not as tempting to gobble it all up. I use a recipe that makes four loaves at a time and I put it into the freezer for future use. ♥

  9. Happy birthday to your handsome grandson! My oldest turned 7 this year and I also feel that he is growing up too quickly, so I can imagine how you feel, Martha to have a teenager grandson.

We share some favorites--I love King Arthur Flour products. I never visited their home base store, but I have attended a few of their bread making classes locally. I also like Simon Pearce and have a few pieces of his signature brown and white pottery that I bought in Ireland years ago when I visited his base there. I never knew he moved to America! All New England is so lovely--glad you had a good time with your family and time to visit your favorite places.

  13. -clapping hands- You did change your Background, to a William Morris wall paper!!! Hoooorayyyyyyyyy!!!!

And I only told you the "bare bones" of how to do it. You figured the hard part out, all on your own!!! You are very techy, even though you have not been blogging for very long!

Isn't it fun????? And you can change, any ol' time you want to, now!!!!

That's what I love about doing this. My ability to change my Background, when I change my Header/Banner. (Which I do almost daily. -grin-)

    Again, congratulations!!!

    Happy Spring hugs,
    Tessa

  15. Hi Martha! Aw, what handsome little grandsons you have and I know the celebration must have been so much fun. They do grow up fast, don't they? We are not very far from Vermont so I will have to remember the flour place and the blown glass place. It's magical to watch someone make glass pretty! Thanks for popping in to see me and I wish you and your family a blessed Easter.
    Be a sweetie,
