Renovation Progress

Yesterday was a happy day for us!  We have finished our part of the little change we have made to our home.  My little kitchen has served me well for 43 years.  When we first built our home all those years ago, we were thrilled with our little home.  Our kitchen was much larger than the one we moved from.  We had an antique round table that belonged to my great-grandparents in this new little kitchen.  All four of us ate most of our meals in this kitchen.  When I think of that now, I'm amazed.  After many years passed we moved that table and chairs out of the kitchen and put another cabinet and another storage piece.  So my little kitchen has transitioned through the years.

We began this project the week after we returned from Williamsburg in February.  Grayden did all of this work himself.  He is not a carpenter, but can really do everything.  I am married to a very talented man.

We had a quartz counter-top installed by a professional.  I am very pleased with the look.

This has opened up my little kitchen so much!  I'm already enjoying it quite a bit.

I'm showing you these photos way before I should. I have taken down my Emma Bridgewater mugs and a lot of the decor that I love in my kitchen.   The painters now need to come and paint.  I will show you when that is done.  I will now just enjoy my new little kitchen.

  1. This looks really nice, Martha! It makes a huge difference, even without adding any actual space to your kitchen. Great job!

    1. Not one inch was added and it makes such a difference, Connie. I can't believe we've taken so long to do it. ♥

  2. He built the island... I take it. And the lovely counter top, was installed. Great work, all round.

What color(s) will the painter be doing?

Love your deep red dining room and white. Or son/family next door, has the same. It's lovely.

    1. Tessa, my husband cut the half wall out and reworked the electrical. He then put up the trim work. The half wall that he cut out was then fitted with the new counter.
I'll be sticking with my crimson red walls in the dining room and white woodwork. This color is so me. The kitchen will remain white. How nice to have your family nearby!
      Enjoy your weekend. ♥

    1. Thank you, Penny. I do love dark rich colors-- so much that I am keeping the crimson in our dining room. In the rest of our home I am going to lighten them up a bit.
Blessings to you as well. ♥

  5. I love that it seems from your photographs that when you have guests sitting at the table, for those moments you need to be in the kitchen you won't have to leave their company. Of course, all the best parties happen in the kitchen!

    1. Penny, I love it when wildlife comes to our home. Well, mostly...I'm not fond of snakes. That's so neat Ed the egret comes back in the spring. Maybe his mate will be joining him soon. ♥

  11. Wow you must be so happy! The new quarts countertop is a beauty. I like how you can see to the dining room- great idea. We made changes to our kitchen in 1996. At that time I couldn't even consider granite which was the big thing then. Now it's going towards the quartz which I like because it's more durable and no maintenance. Kudos to your hubby for the DIY work.

  13. The quartz counter top looks very nice, Martha Ellen. Your kitchen is charming, and I love the bits of red in there. Do I see brick on the walls? My mom had brick throughout her kitchen, and I always loved it growing up. That is special that you've had this same kitchen for 43 years.

  16. Really opened things up and changed the entire feel of the room. We basically did the same thing, removing an entire wall from kitchen to living area, turning it into a Keeping Room. Bravo Grayden! And to you to, as you were likely the go-fer... as I was.
