From A Distance

I've always been a fan of Bette Midler's version of From a Distance.  The instrumental version is playing as I write.  It touches my heart and soul every time.

This song was written by Julie Gold in 1985.  It was first recorded by Nanci Griffith in 1987.  It became a hit when Bette Midler introduced it in 1990.  However you interpret its meaning, Julie Gold said for her it meant that things sometimes appear differently than they really are.

Sending you blessings from my heart to yours!

  1. What a beautiful song indeed. God is watching and must be mightily disappointed with us. The seeds of this song should be planted in the hearts of every human soul then maybe we'd be doing better. Got me in tears this morning, my friend, thank you for sharing it with us.
Bette Midler is a wonderful entertainer, and has the most beautiful face, I think, especially when she smiles, she lights up.
Blessings from my heart to yours too. xoxo

  5. Martha Ellen, this is a perfect song for these times. I saw your post yesterday, and didn't comment cause something distracted me, but the song has been playing in my head ever since haha.

Have a sweet September weekend, dear Martha Ellen.

  6. As a woman with very narrow musical taste (sheepish grin), I had not heard this song. Some of the lyrics made me think of a future day when these things (no guns, no bombs, no disease, harmony) will be reality for the Believer! Thank you for sharing your heart!

  9. I, too, always loved this song! Bette Midler sang it with such true emotion. It encourages me me that we can all share more kindness and try to make the world a better place, one by one.
