A Late Christmas Gift
While packing up the Christmas decor today, my husband was busily packing the candles from the windows. He is the best packer. We always laugh that he could get a elephant into a Volkswagen. When we go to the beach we carry so much stuff, but he always manages to get whatever we need into our sedan.
We always use the same boxes to store our Christmas decor.Today he noticed a piece of notebook paper amongst the newspaper that he wraps the electric candles in. A gift from the past!
Those of you with grown children will appreciate this. Noel is now 46 and Grady is 43. What a lovely discovery this morning! Many things have been saved from the school years of our children. I even have a box for each one of them filled with childhood memories. They each know where these boxes are, but for now they are still in our home. Maybe one day they will look upon them and enjoy looking at the past. I know one Mama and Daddy enjoyed this today! ♥
I read this and commented to Peter (My husband, to Martha Ellen's faithful readers) that my handwriting wasn't really all that bad as a child. Peter asked me what happened? LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat was really cute.
Noel, we were so surprised to find this letter! ♥
DeleteDon't you wonder why it was so many years before the note fell out of the newspaper? How many times you were close to discovery? Regardless, what a treasure from the past! So sweet!
ReplyDeleteYes we do wonder, Cheryl! We needed to see it this year. ♥
DeleteI want to know....did they get what they asked for from Santa? I have boxes in the attic, too, with my boys' school papers. As June as Olivia June starts school my son is going to be given his. The same with my other two once they have children. I read once that a good way to "save" all their special papers without having to actually keep them is to photograph them. Now that we have digital I think that is a great idea....although, finding that handwritten note after all this time must have felt very special. I'm surprised, too, that you just now found it!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Santa totally came through that year!
DeleteCathy and Noel, We baked many times in that Hollie Hobbie oven. I mean, you can't beat cooking under a light bulb! ♥
DeleteSuch a lovely thing to happen. I wonder what other treasures await discovery in this new year?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I now have a vision of a man stuffing an elephant into a VW!!! Thanks for that :)
