Snowy Days

For those of you that live up north, I'm sure you aren't interested in the little snow we have.  I guess when you don't get something often, it seems more like a prize than when you have it all the time!  Here in the south, we don't get snow very often of course.  I happen to be a soul that loves it.  No I don't have to work in it or do I often have to even shovel it.

Snow began falling on Saturday and continued throughout the night into Sunday.  The icing on the cake came in the form of a sleet/snow mixture.  This is kind of dangerous and I realize not everyone gets to sit by the fire and relax.

We made sure the bird feeders were full when we heard about the upcoming storm.

The snow accumulated quickly and weighted down the hollies and the conifers.

Hopefully the boxwoods will spring back after the weight of the snow melts.  Although I have been having issues with this particular one.  I'm afraid it is suffering from box blight--a dreaded problem with boxwood.

The snow created a lovely sight as the sun began to rise.

The blue skies began to peek out from the cloud cover.

The sunshine adds another beautiful element to snow.

We decided since the sun and salt melted the snow on the road we would venture out for a walk.

It felt so good to get outdoors and breathe in the fresh air.  I'm an outside gal and feel cooped in if I don't go outside!

Okay, let's go in and have something warm to drink.

Would you like to join me for my morning tea?  Or maybe you'd like to have a cup of coffee.  I'm sure Grayden would share a cup with you.  Whatever you choose I hope you keep warm and safe wherever your day takes you. ♥

  2. Martha Ellen, I'm so glad that I came back over here to see this! Your yard looks like a winter wonderland! What a beautiful sight! I really loved each and every one of your pictures. That tall tree looks like a Christmas tree all covered in snow. I'm glad you got to go for a walk and experience the moment a little more. Well, we live in northern California, as you know, but I have to drive about an hour up the mountains to see the snow, so this was a thrill for me to see. Thank you, Martha Ellen. And what a sweet tea pot and cup this is. I'll have that cup of tea now. : )

    1. It would be my pleasure to have you for tea, Sheri. Maybe if it's safe, you can take a drive to the mountains to see the snow. Our walk with the snow all around us was really enjoyable. Thanks for coming back to visit. You are always welcome. ♥

  3. It looks very pretty and brightens your world! I love that rare snow is considered a treat. The birds must have appreciated the full feeders.

    1. Vee, I know you have a different perspective on snow. I hope your snow is not too bothersome this winter. I'm still the little kid that remembers snow from my childhood. ♥

    1. Lynn, it's so nice to know someone that loves winter, especially one from the north. Thank you for visiting with us today. I hope you enjoy your week. ♥

  5. Your snow pictures are beautiful! Yes, there is something magical about snow when it's infrequent and when you don't need to drive in it.

(I confess, I did not love it when both Ron and Kati had to drive to work early this morning on roads that were still covered in ice and snow. I was a happy girl when I heard that each of them reached their work places safely. By the drive home, roads were clear.)

Your yard looks beautiful in all seasons!

    1. Cheryl, I too worried about Samuel as he drove home from work on Saturday evening when quite a bit of snow was accumulating. Young or old drivers can have problems on the roads. Especially since snow tires are really not a good idea in our climate. Our daughter lives in New England and they have snow tires installed in the winter. I'm so glad Ron and Kati made it safely to work! ♥

  6. That is so cool that you had a pretty snow but still managed to get out for a walk. It's looking like our winter will be so mild that we aren't expecting even one snowflake.. I'm disappointed. I at least like to enjoy one snowy event. Thanks for sharing your snow with us. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. Oh what a lovely snow! We are still waiting for our first snow of the season. The word is mentioned in Saturday's forecast, so we will see. Now, wouldn't tea be such a lovely thing. And, I do love your new header picture.

    1. The "word" was mentioned for our weekend as well! It does look more like a rain event for us, though. It would be nice to have tea with all of my friends here. Have a happy week. ♥

  8. Beautiful snow pictures! I hope your boxwoods spring back, they are pretty hardy.
I notice every year there is a yellowish color on the leave in certain patches on my boxwoods. Is this the blight you are talking about? I have been just cutting it off, so far so good.
Looks so pretty in your area with the snow and today in the sunshine was a good day for a walk out in it. Coffee and tea sounds good to me. Nice seeing your pretty snow pictures and reading about your day. I heard we could possibly have some next week end? Oh well , it's winter.

    1. Betsy, blight is not just yellowing of the leaves, but dying back as well. Unfortunately this box is headed on the way out. I've cut back the large sections that die back and pretty soon there will be nothing left!
I heard about the weekend prediction of maybe snow or rain. Stay warm and cozy with a good book and a cup of tea! ♥

  9. I would love to join you for a cup of morning tea, thank you, and I shall wear my matching apron!

How magical your snow looks; it creeps in, silently, and you wake up to a winter wonderland. The photos where the sky is blue are all the more magical with that tiny splash of colour. Maybe we will see snow by this coming weekend.

    1. Oh Deb, do wear your matching apron. It would be wonderful to have you for tea! Maybe your snow this weekend is from our storm of last weekend! Stay inside and enjoy the beauty it brings. xoxo ♥

  10. You took us on a beautiful stroll and I must admit to enjoying the snow in your photos. We don't get a lot of snow on the Island but mainland Scotland can be quite the chore to drive through with some roads closed making for difficult driving conditions. I would love to join you for tea, I will bring some scones that I have just been gifted.

    1. That would be lovely if you bring scones, Lorraine! Yes, driving around here can be quite dangerous--most folks think that they can continue to drive fast and don't slow down. I can't imagine driving on the narrow roads of Scotland in ice and snow. Let's stay home and have tea and scones! ♥

  11. Very pretty! Though I do deal with the snow all the time I enjoy many of the pretty affects created by it especially when it sticks to the trees. I just looked up box blight and found an article about dealing with it. I had some holly shrubs years ago that were plagued with those dark rusty spots. The location for my plants was poor so I ended up giving up and removing them. https://blog.fantasticgardeners.co.uk/cure-blight-box/

    1. Liz, I've had these English Boxwoods for probably 30 years! I used to have four of them making a square around a rose garden that my daughter and I planted. I'll check out the link to see what they say. I've been cutting back the dying limbs and I'm afraid of the inevitable! Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your week! ♥

  12. I surely would love a cup of tea out of that pretty teapot, and that is a lovely cup also. It was a real pretty snow this time as is shown in your photos. You took gorgeous shots of everything. I worry about those who have to drive out in it, especially late at night when they are talking about icy conditions. They cleared the roads very well though and I sincerely hope that everyone will stay safe and be back in their homes with their families. I will be out there in the morning to refill the bird feeders.

    1. It would be lovely to serve you tea, Denise. It is worrisome when folks have to travel on the icy roads. I'm sure your birds are happy you are refilling your feeders. It's harder for them during these snow covered days. Enjoy a cozy evening. ♥

  14. Wonderful winter wonderland, such beautiful snow photos. This winter, until today no snow for us. However, the weatherforcast is a tiny bit of snowfall tonight and thereafter some frosty days. We'll see..... Actually I love snow and frost even more because I love skating(almost too old for it), but when there are already so many signs of spring I'm more looking forward to warmer weather.
    Enjoy your fresh snow walks!

    1. Janneke, I like thinking of you ice skating. I tried it a couple times when I was much younger. It was a lot of fun. It's hard to believe spring is already showing signs in Holland. Enjoy it! ♥

  15. I love being able to walk past a window and see that lovely scene of snow covering branches and bushes. Driving in it not so much. I love that my sons have jobs that allow them to telecommute when the roads are too bad. It enables me to enjoy snow storms--reminds me of snow days when they got to stay home from school--I loved that!

    1. Telecommuting is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Grayden basically did that his last few years before retiring. It only makes sense for the worker and the employer. Enjoy the snow views and all the memories, my friend. ♥

  16. Hello! Thanks for stopping over to Marmelade Gypsy (and to Liz for "introducing" us. What beautiful views you have with your snow. Lansing, MI has been very lucky with no snow (just cold) -- at least so far. I enjoy it far more in your beautiful photos. I hope to find some of your England posts in your archives!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Jeanie. That was so sweet of Liz to introduce a fellow Anglophile. That's really something that we have snow and you have none! I see you have visited many of my posts on England. I will be posting more soon as I still need to post about the remaining two weeks of our last trip to Britain for our Golden Anniversary. ♥

  18. Loving that pot and cup. So cute. Love the snow. Here in Nashville tonight, temps to drop even more and this pouring rain we have is to become....MAYBE, POSSIBLY, WHO REALLY KNOWS, SNOW. We are not to get much if it does but on the flip side, it could become just ice. I will be heading to the barn early to feed this evening since it is not to get here till after 6....and there again MAYBE, POSSIBLY and WHO REALLY KNOWS. Seems like when it comes to ice and snow the weather folks don't always get it on the nose.
